KETSUEKI: THE SCARLET RONIN
I. Daughter of the Tsukikage Clan Elder
Long before she became known as Ketsueki, she was Ayame Tsukikage.
Born beneath the mist-covered peaks of Mount Kageyama, Ayame was the daughter of the Tsukikage Clan Elder. For generations, her clan stood as guardians against demons, curses, and restless spirits that threatened humanity.
Raised within the sacred mountain temple, Ayame trained relentlessly from childhood. Her skill with the blade surpassed warriors twice her age, while her discipline earned the respect of even the clan’s oldest masters.
One day, she was expected to lead them all.
Fate had other plans.
II. Guardians of the Veil
The Tsukikage Clan lived in secrecy.
While kingdoms fought over land and power, the clan protected humanity from threats hidden in the shadows. Their sacred swordsmanship was passed down through generations, allowing them to combat demons that ordinary soldiers could never hope to defeat.
But the clan guarded more than humanity.
Hidden beneath their sacred shrine rested a forbidden relic known only to the Elders and a select few trusted warriors.
Akuma no Ken.
The Demon Sword.
For generations, the Tsukikage Clan served as its wardens. They understood the danger contained within the blade and dedicated their lives to ensuring it never fell into the wrong hands. Protected by powerful seals and hidden deep beneath the mountain, the sword remained untouched for centuries.
The clan believed there was no safer place in the world for Akuma no Ken than beneath their shrine.
Surrounded by warriors sworn to protect it. Guarded by traditions older than kingdoms themselves.
They were wrong.
III. The Crimson Moon
The end came beneath a crimson moon.
Takeda Kurogane, a ruthless warlord obsessed with immortality and ultimate power, had learned of the sword hidden beneath the Tsukikage Shrine. Legends claimed it possessed the power to grant eternal life and unimaginable strength to whoever could master it.
Determined to claim the relic, Takeda led an army into the mountains. The attack was merciless.
Buildings burned.
Warriors fell.
Families were slaughtered.
By dawn, the Tsukikage Clan had been erased from history.
Everyone died.
Everyone except Ayame.
IV. The Last Survivor
Buried beneath the bodies of her fallen clan, Ayame awoke surrounded by ash and silence.
Broken and bleeding, she crawled through the ruins of the temple she once called home. Everywhere she looked, she found only death.
Her family.
Her friends.
Her future.
Gone.
As the flames consumed the last remnants of her clan, Ayame wandered through the shattered shrine. Beneath the rubble and destruction, she noticed something few would have ever seen.
A hidden entrance.
Concealed within the shrine’s foundation and protected by ancient craftsmanship, the passage blended seamlessly into the surrounding stone. To an outsider, it was invisible. Even many members of the Tsukikage Clan lived their entire lives without knowing it existed.
The hidden chamber had remained undiscovered during the attack. Takeda’s soldiers had searched for the sword.
But they had never found the entrance.
With her strength fading and death closing in, Ayame descended into the darkness below.
There, she found the relic Takeda had sought.
V. Akuma no Ken
The sword rested alone within a forgotten chamber.
Its black blade seemed to absorb the surrounding light. Crimson energy pulsed beneath the steel like a heartbeat, casting faint red reflections across the chamber walls. An overwhelming aura of darkness filled the room.
This was Akuma no Ken.
The Demon Sword.
Legends claimed every warrior who wielded it lost their mind and soul.
The sword’s mere presence was enough to overwhelm weak minds. The chamber trembled beneath its power as a crushing pressure settled over the room, growing heavier with every step toward the blade. The temperature dropped unnaturally, sending a bitter cold through the chamber that seemed to seep into the bones themselves. Frost crept across the stone floor while each breath became visible in the air.
The air itself felt poisoned by evil.
Breathing became difficult, as though an invisible force was pressing against her chest. Countless warriors throughout history had perished before even touching the blade, their hearts stopping the moment they stood before it. Others fell to their knees, driven mad by the whispers echoing from within the steel, their screams swallowed by the unnatural silence surrounding the weapon.
Yet standing amidst the ruins of her life, Ayame no longer feared death.
Her family was gone.
Her clan was gone.
Everything she had ever loved had been taken from her. If the sword killed her, so be it. She carved open her palm and let her blood fall upon the blade. The moment her blood touched the steel, the chamber shook.
The whispers stopped.
And something ancient awoke.
VI. The Blood Pact
The entity within the sword called itself Akuma. A primordial demon born from centuries of hatred, violence, and despair.
The blood pact bound their souls together.
Akuma did not choose Ayame.
Ayame chose Akuma.
The contract could never be broken.
Her wounds healed. Her strength increased. Her eyes began to glow crimson beneath the moonlight.
But the gift came with a curse.
Akuma no Ken radiated an evil presence that demons could sense from great distances. Its dark aura spread across the land like a beacon in the night.
Wherever the sword traveled, demons followed.
VII. The Scarlet Ronin
When Takeda finally reached the hidden chamber, he discovered he was too late. Ayame stood before him with Akuma no Ken in her hands.
Behind her loomed the manifestation of Akuma itself, a towering demonic shadow with burning crimson eyes and endless hunger.
For the first time in years, Takeda Kurogane felt fear. He had come seeking a weapon. Instead, he had awakened a monster.
Knowing he was no match for the power before him, Takeda ordered his remaining soldiers to attack while he fled the mountain.
He would find another way.
Another path to immortality.
Another way to claim the sword.
From that day forward, Ayame Tsukikage vanished from the world. A new name emerged from the ashes.
Ketsueki - The Scarlet Ronin.
VIII. The Demon of the Blade
Years passed.
Ketsueki wandered from kingdom to kingdom hunting demons and searching for Takeda Kurogane.
Yet she soon discovered the true nature of her curse.
Demons were drawn to Akuma no Ken like moths to a flame. Some sought its power. Others feared it. None could ignore it.
Worse still, Akuma fed on human blood.
Not demon blood.
Human blood.
Every soldier slain. Every bandit executed. Every life taken by the sword strengthened the demon within her. Demons could be slaughtered by the hundreds without feeding Akuma.
But a single human life nourished the darkness inside her.
And with every battle, Akuma’s voice grew louder.
IX. A War Within
Ketsueki feared many things.
But not death.
Her greatest fear was losing herself.
The more rage she embraced, the stronger Akuma became. The more human blood spilled by Akuma no Ken, the deeper the demon’s influence spread within her soul.
Sometimes she could feel it watching through her eyes.
Sometimes she could hear it whispering in the silence.
Sometimes she caught herself enjoying the violence.
Those moments terrified her. Because she knew the truth.
One day there might be more of Akuma than Ayame.
And if that day came, the Scarlet Ronin would become something far worse than any demon she hunted.
X. The Endless Hunt
The years became legend.
Some called Ketsueki a hero.
Others called her a monster.
Villages whispered that wherever the Scarlet Ronin appeared, demons would soon follow.
Both stories were true.
Yet she continues her journey.
She hunts the man who destroyed her clan. Takeda Kurogane still seeks Akuma no Ken and the immortality he believes it can grant. Somewhere in the shadows, he searches for a way to claim the sword that slipped through his fingers.
Demons continue to gather around the blade. Akuma continues to grow stronger. And somewhere beneath the blood, beneath the curse, and beneath the legend of the Scarlet Ronin, Ayame Tsukikage still survives.
She only hopes she can find Takeda before the day comes when Akuma no longer needs to whisper.
